In a recent report, Defensa Central stated that Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders is on the radar of Real Madrid. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Dutch talent from the Mancunian club this summer.

Reijnders’ Important Role At Man City This Season

Reijnders has served as a useful presence in Pep Guardiola’s squad this season and has managed to put in a series of impressive displays for Man City in the Premier League. The 27-year-old has made 45 appearances for the Mancunian club this season, scoring seven times and earning eight assists in multiple competitions.

The Dutch talent needs to earn regular playing time if he wants to taste success at the highest level. Hence, the player might welcome a change of scenery in search of more first-team starts next season.

His current contract at the Etihad Stadium will run out in the summer of 2030. Therefore, Guardiola is under no immediate pressure to cash in on him this off-season.

Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Cut Reijnders Loose?

Reijnders is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and is a tidy passer as well.

Standing at 1.85m, the Dutch sensation can use his strong frame to win a few aerial duels for his team. Reijnders is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if required. However, he has still not proven his worth as a consistent performer in the Premier League.

At the moment, Reijnders is not one of the first names in Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet. Thus, it makes sense for Man City to cut him loose this summer unless they plan to play him more regularly in the upcoming campaign.

At 27, Reijnders has his peak years ahead of him and could prove to be a real asset for the Mancunian club over the next few years. However, Guardiola might be better off cashing in on him and using the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a quality replacement this off-season.
