“He was doing so many things intentionally right that impressed me, and I was like, ‘That’s really cool.’. I also liked the setting of it because we were early at bringing back Saturday Night’s Main Event again, the old-school setting and stuff, that was really fitting,” he said.

The Austrian star said he liked the setting of the bout because of Saturday Night’s Main Event’s retro theme. Gunther, in that match, put his World Heavyweight Championship on the line. Meanwhile, Goldberg was set to retire regardless of the outcome.

Gunther added that facing Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, 2025, was a surreal experience. On WWE Retrospective, The Ring General recalled using Da Man’s character in a wrestling video game on his Nintendo 64 while playing with his friends.

“I mean, on the one hand, it was also kind of like a surreal moment because wrestling Goldberg was never my agenda or anything; it’s like, sure, I’ll wrestle Goldberg if it happens. I used to play that guy on the N64 with my friends. It’s funny to catch yourself in a situation like that,” he said.

Little did he know at that time that he would share the ring with the WCW legend in his retirement match. Since retiring Da Man, The Ring General has ended the careers of John Cena and AJ Styles.
