Rory McIlroy’s second win at The Masters was made even more special by the presence of his parents, who were not in attendance when he claimed the green jacket in 2025.
They chose to travel to Augusta National this year, which turned out to be a fantastic decision as their son successfully defended his title.

It was a special moment for the Northern Irishman, who also had many fans watching on from Holywood Golf Club in his hometown.
But it was his mum Rosie who really caught the attention of golf fans thanks to her now-iconic accessory, having carried a handbag with a newspaper article depicting McIlroy’s 2025 Masters win.

More fans on social media said: “That’s what mums do, great family support,” and “Brilliant, she must be so proud of Rory… the whole nation is!”

Rory McIlroy continues remarkable major championship history
Even as the defending champion at The Masters, many golf fans certainly weren’t expecting McIlroy to do what he did this week.

He made just four starts on the PGA Tour going into the tournament, withdrawing at the halfway stage of the Arnold Palmer Invitational due to a back injury.
But his superb ability and vast knowledge of Augusta meant he certainly couldn’t be ruled out, along with his remarkable career major record that continues to throw up surprises.
Not even McIlroy himself can estimate how he’ll perform on the big stage given his track record, which started out with four wins from his first 25 major championships.
A painful wait for a fifth title and a first at The Masters followed, with the Northern Irishman unable to claim any wins from his next 38 majors.

But he is now firmly back to winning ways, claiming two wins from his last five major tournaments, both earning him the green jacket.
He now boasts six titles at the age of 36, and it is anybody’s guess what that figure will look like come the end of his extraordinary career.
