Dupri saw that Rhodes was about to deliver the final Cross Rhodes to Austin Theory, and came in the ring to low-blow Cody and end the match right there. Austin and Bron retained the title, but marked a loss in their match records.

It was likely Cody and Oba wouldn’t win the titles, and some shenanigans like Dupri’s interruption were necessary. Rhodes, who was already on the live broadcast of SmackDown, had a brawl with Orton.

Rhodes was there to take on Sami Zayn for the WWE Undisputed Championship No. 1 Contender match. That did not happen, but a while after the cameras went off, he was back in the ring for the aforementioned dark match.

Two titles already changed hands on SmackDown this week

Three title matches were there on this week’s edition of SmackDown live from Boston. First, hometown hero Carmelo Hayes challenged Baron Corbin for the United States Championship but was unsuccessful. That was the only title match where the title did not change hands.

Later, the WWE Tag Team Championships were on the line as Damian Priest and R-Truth had a tag team triple threat match against MFTs and War Raiders. MFTs’ Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga took the win here, marking the latter’s first reign with the title.

Then Jacy Jayne defeated Tiffany Stratton for the Women’s United States Championship, making the whole Fatal Influence draped in gold.
