Ripley then went on to win the Elimination Chamber match and punched her ticket to WrestleMania 42, leaving her tag team partner with no direction. SKY was rumored to face Asuka at The Show of Shows, but those plans also didn’t materialize.
In this article, we will look at three signs that indicate the CCO, Triple H, has given up on the 35-year-old WWE star.
#3. Winless in singles competition this year
Though IYO SKY won several matches in tag team action alongside Rhea Ripley, she has not picked up a single victory in singles competition this year, and her losses have come at the worst possible moments.
On the February 23 episode of WWE RAW, SKY competed in the final Elimination Chamber qualifying match against Kairi Sane and Raquel Rodriguez, with Rodriguez winning after Sane threw SKY out of the ring. That loss eliminated her from the entire WrestleMania 42 title picture before it even got started.
The losing continued on the go-home episode of SmackDown and RAW before WrestleMania. She lost to Jade Cargill on the blue brand and to Kairi Sane on the latest edition of the Monday Night Show.
For a performer of SKY’s caliber, entering WrestleMania weekend with a losing streak in singles matches is a significant concern. She has no momentum or victories, and this clearly shows that The Game has given up on her.
#2. Out of WWE WrestleMania 42
At WrestleMania 40 and 41, The Genius of the Sky was heavily featured in top women’s title matches. However, at this year’s Show of Shows, SKY is not officially booked for any match, and at this point, it appears she won’t be.
After Rhea Ripley won the Elimination Chamber match and shifted her focus to WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill, SKY was left without a tag partner, without titles, and without a clear WrestleMania opponent. The plan for an IYO SKY vs. Asuka match at ‘Mania appeared to be gaining traction for weeks, but it was never officially announced.
The Asuka vs. IYO SKY match has been held up by Nikki Bella’s ankle injury, with reports stating The Kabuki Warriors are the planned replacements for The Bella Twins in the Women’s Tag Team Championship Fatal Four-Way bout if Nikki cannot be medically cleared.
That means SKY’s potential WrestleMania moment is contingent on someone else’s injury status. Her absence from the ‘Mania card this year suggests that The CCO has given up on the Women’s Grand Slam Champion.
#1. Playing sidekick to Rhea Ripley
RHIYO captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship on the January 5 episode of RAW, defeating The Kabuki Warriors. Within a month, Ripley and SKY lost the titles to Nia Jax and Lash Legend, just before Elimination Chamber.
After The Eradicator’s win at Chamber, the two cut a promo declaring they were still friends but that their tag team run was being put on hold so Ripley could chase bigger goals. The split was framed entirely around Ripley’s career, with SKY playing the supportive partner throughout.
The Genis of the SKY has also been helping Mami in her feud with The Storm. On tonight’s edition of WWE RAW, SKY’s former Damage CTRL partner, Asuka, said that SKY is just Ripley’s sidekick.
“Last year, you walked into WrestleMania as the World Champion. But now, you’re just Rhea Ripley’s sidekick,” said Asuka.
The former WWE Women’s World Champion playing Ripley’s sidekick role suggests Triple H has completely given up on her and has no clear direction for the star.
