She hoisted Tatum onto her shoulders into a torture rack submission, putting the entire NXT women’s roster on notice. While she made her official debut on NXT programming, Vic Joseph and Booker T didn’t refer to her by a name.

After a few days, fans now know what to call the formidable new performer – Reina Volcan. Volcan had been competing at WWE live events under the name “Martinez,” a reference to her real-life last name.

Blackheart was on WWE’s radar for much of the last two years. With a heavy focus on the independent scene as well as the collegiate ranks, Shawn Michaels is always on the lookout to improve and diversify the divisions of NXT and Evolve.

Blackheart the latest WWE debutee to make an impact

Lash Legend, Blake Monroe, Sol Ruca, and Fatal Influence all moved up to RAW and Smackdown since last December, creating spots for others to take. Those spots can be filled by stars from Evolve or those who skip that brand.

Lizzy Rain, a European standout from last year’s SummerSlam tryouts, jumped right to NXT. Both Kali Armstrong and Kendal Grey made their names in Evolve before joining NXT. Both women won the Evolve Women’s Championship.

Grey recently won the NXT Women’s Championship after defeating Lola Vice at last weekend’s Great American Bash event. With the turnover in rosters, HBK felt it was time to add Blackheart to the ranks.

The division has Armstrong as a powerhouse, but Blackheart is built differently. She’s bigger than even Zaria, who was initially presented as an unstoppable juggernaut when she debuted.

With another prominent name joining NXT, Tuesday nights can again brag about having one of the most impressive women’s divisions from top to bottom.

Now that she has her official WWE ring name in the books, Volcan will look to cut a swath through the women of NXT, possibly sending one or more to the main roster.
