The two stars have continued to trade blows since and came face-to-face again on SmackDown this week, two days ahead of Clash in Italy. A heated promo saw Cody Rhodes tell his opponent that on Sunday he will find out that he is just not good enough to carry the WWE Championship.

Gunther responded by calling the American Nightmare a mark for himself before promising that he will choke out the Champion on Sunday.

The show ended with Gunther leaving as Rhodes stood alone in the ring. But after the live cameras stopped rolling in Barcelona, there was more action. A video has surfaced online showing what happened after SmackDown went off-air.

Rhodes was standing in the ring when the former NXT UK Champion ran in to try and blindside him. However, the Undisputed Champion dodged the attempt and then hit him with a Cross Rhodes to stand tall 48 hours before their Title match.

Hall of Famer believes WWE should wait more before making Gunther WWE Champion

Given Gunther’s booking over the last few months, it won’t be a surprise if he walks out of Turin as the new WWE Undisputed Champion.

He represents a big challenge for Cody Rhodes and many fans do feel the Champion is in jeopardy. However, Hall of Famer JBL believes he would prefer if WWE waited a little more before putting the Title on the Austrian.

Speaking on Something to Wrestle With, he said the Career Killer would eventually win the Championship but said it would be better if his character is made to wait before the crowning moment.

He also mentioned if this is the right time or not for him to win the Title but knows it will eventually happen.
