Following the show, an irate Gunther had a heated confrontation with Nick Aldis that soon turned physical, leading to officials stepping in to separate the two before things got out of hand. On this week’s SmackDown, Gunther called out Aldis and told him to fix his mistake of booking CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam.

The SmackDown General Manager believed there were no mistakes and instead announced that Gunther would be teaming up with Sami Zayn to face Punk and Rhodes in a tag team match at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Madison Square Garden.

Gunther blindsided Aldis and locked in a sleeper hold on him, leading to Rhodes coming out to make the save before the show went off the air. After the events at SmackDown, Nick Aldis seems to be preparing for an in-ring comeback.

Nick Aldis could face Gunther at SummerSlam

Insider Masked J of TRNBCKL seemingly confirmed on X that Aldis vs. Gunther is the plan for The Biggest Party of the Summer. The National Treasure has yet to wrestle since debuting in WWE.

His last in-ring appearance came on October 7, 2023, at ACW Bluegrass Con, where he competed in a five-way match. Earlier, it appeared that Aldis’ in-ring return would happen against Drew McIntyre after the latter repeatedly accused the SmackDown General Manager of playing favorites.

However, that did not materialize. That said, it seems that Aldis may finally step back in the ring again for a high-profile match against The Ring General at SummerSlam. It remains to be seen when the bout is officially announced.
