Kairi Sane was a member of Damage CTRL during her time in the promotion and was also in a popular tag team with Asuka known as The Kabuki Warriors. The 37-year-old captured the NXT Women’s Championship during her time in the company but never won a singles title on the main roster. She captured the Women’s Tag Team Championships three times with Asuka while in the promotion. Asuka has been absent from WWE television since her loss to IYO SKY at Backlash 2026.

Kairi Sane opens up about her surprising WWE release

Kairi Sane recently shared her honest feelings about being released by the company earlier this year.

In an interview with Japanese wrestling magazine ShuPro, Sane discussed being let go and admitted it came as a shock to her. The former champion noted that she was in a WWE storyline with Asuka at the time and did not expect to be released. Sane also shared that she was never put in a position to be the focal point of a storyline during her time in the company.

“The story was reaching a turning point where my character was about to explode into action… I had been building up frustration and holding back for so long, and I was finally at the stage where I thought, ‘Now I can unleash my true potential!’ So getting released right at that moment was a huge shock,” she said.

It will be interesting to see what lies ahead in the world of professional wrestling for Sane following her WWE exit.
