In an interview on ESPN’s Get Up, the Austrian star talked about why he went after Rhodes on SmackDown a few weeks ago. He said Rhodes has gotten too comfortable with his spot in WWE, and he wants to change that.

“Well, Cody is obviously the golden boy of WWE, and he seems very comfortable in that position, and I have done so much in such a short time since I’m in WWE, and I think it’s time to get even with Cody, and I’d like to disrupt his comfort,” he added.

The host then brought up Rhodes talking about beating Gunther in their Champion vs. Champion clash at Crown Jewel in 2024. The former World Champion said this is what Rhodes likes to do and accused him of being an attention seeker.

“That’s exactly what it’s about with Cody. Attention seeker. He really thrives on that. Even in my allocated time as a guest on that show, he finds a way to pass on a message. He can say whatever he wants. I know when that bell rings, I’m a better wrestler than Cody is,” he added.

Gunther says he will have home advantage against Cody Rhodes at Clash in Italy

Cody Rhodes and Gunther have exchanged a few blows leading up to their match at Clash in Italy. While the Ring General will back himself to overcome Rhodes on Sunday, history is in the WWE Champion’s favor.

Apart from his win at Crown Jewel two years ago, Rhodes also eliminated Gunther at the end to win the 2023 Royal Rumble. But The Career Killer has explained why he is confident heading into Sunday.

On Get Up, he said that being from Austria means that Italy is almost home turf for him. He said the atmosphere in Turin will be something that Cody Rhodes isn’t used to, and hence, he is positive about his chances in the title match.
