Last night on SmackDown, the new Acting General Manager, Adam Pearce, wasted no time finding the first challenger for Sami Zayn’s title. Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso happened to be in the ring with Sami Zayn, leading to a No.1 Contender’s Match.

The American Nightmare defeated the Yeet Man in the main event to earn himself a rematch for the title. He will now challenge the Underdog from the Underground on the upcoming episode of RAW, which will take place in Chicago.

Ahead of the highly anticipated rematch, WRKD Wrestling posted a throwback video on X from the RAW after WrestleMania 42, where CM Punk told Cody Rhodes that he had to stay ready for a potential Undisputed WWE Championship opportunity in the future.

The timing of this post is impeccable, as CM Punk is rumored to return in his hometown of Chicago, while Cody Rhodes is set to face Sami Zayn for the most prestigious prize in all of sports entertainment.

This all but confirms that a title change is going to happen on Monday, with the Best in the World possibly returning after the match to set up a blockbuster title program heading into SummerSlam.

Fans should take this rumor with a grain of salt, but all signs point to the Canadian wrestler’s title reign being cut short.

Interestingly, rumor has it that WWE hasn’t informed the marketing team to update SummerSlam’s promotional material to reflect Sami Zayn’s Undisputed Championship win. If that’s true, he is having a transitional reign.
