The latest example is Logan Paul. The Maverick suffered a torn triceps during the World Tag Team Championship match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. After undergoing surgery, he was expected to be sidelined for several months.
However, Paul returned to WWE television on the June 15 episode of RAW, just three weeks after the injury. While he is still not medically cleared to compete, his return came far earlier than many fans anticipated.
That said, The Maverick is not the first superstar to make an early comeback. In this listicle, we will look at three WWE Superstars who returned from injury sooner than expected.
#3. WWE Hall of Famer Edge
Edge made one of the most surprising injury recoveries in WWE history in 2010. The Hall of Famer suffered a torn Achilles tendon in July 2009 while facing Jeff Hardy at a live event. He had to vacate the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship, which he held with Chris Jericho. At the time, many expected him to be out of action for at least a year.
The initial recovery timeline was reportedly between 12 and 14 months. However, Edge returned far sooner than expected. After months of rehabilitation, he made a surprise appearance at the 2010 Royal Rumble, just six months after suffering the injury.
His night got even better from there. The Rated-R Superstar entered the match at number 29 and went on to win the Royal Rumble. Considering the severity of the injury and the original timetable, his return remains one of the fastest and most impressive recoveries in the company’s history.
#2. Jimmy Uso
Jimmy Uso also returned much sooner than expected after suffering an injury in late 2024. The Bloodline member fractured his toe during the Men’s WarGames Match at Survivor Series 2024. The injury occurred after Jimmy hit an Uso Splash from the top of the WarGames cage, forcing him out of action. At the time, reports suggested that he could be sidelined until at least late January 2025.
However, Big Jim’s absence ended up being much shorter. Less than a month after suffering the injury, he returned to the ring during WWE’s Holiday Tour live events in late December 2024. The comeback came as a surprise, given the original recovery timeline.
While it did not happen on television, the return still showed how quickly Jimmy was able to recover from the injury.
#1 John Cena
John Cena’s return in 2008 remains one of the most famous injury comebacks in WWE history. The Cenation Leader suffered a torn pectoral muscle during a match against Mr. Kennedy on RAW in October 2007. The injury required surgery, and early estimates suggested that Cena could miss anywhere from six months to a year.
As a result, he was forced to vacate the WWE Championship. However, Cena recovered much faster than expected. Just four months later, The Franchise Player made a surprise return as the final entrant in the 2008 Royal Rumble Match. The comeback caught both fans and fellow wrestlers off guard, as very few expected him to be medically cleared so soon.
The return became even more memorable when Cena won the entire match. After entering at number 30, he eliminated Triple H to secure the victory and earn a championship opportunity at WrestleMania 24. Given the severity of the injury and the original recovery timeline, Cena’s return is still considered one of the most remarkable in the company’s history.
