Ford’s latest recall affects 148,663 seventh-generation Mustangs. The popular sports car has engine compartment ground eyelet terminals that could experience fatigue fractures, resulting in a cascade of potential problems, including the loss of engine power.
The recall affects the 2024-2026 Mustang. According to the recall report, the heat-shrink material adhesive on the engine’s wiring harness can intrude into the eyelet. If this happens, vehicle vibrations can weaken the eyelet, reduce its lifespan, and cause a fracture.
If this happens, the vehicle could experience several different issues depending on which eyelet breaks. The headlights, air conditioning, windshield washer fluid pump, and engine cooling fan could all fail, in addition to the loss of motive power.
Owners with affected Mustangs may see an illuminated check engine light or warning messages or hear a chime.

Recall Timeline
Ford first learned of a potential problem in June when Electrical Distribution System informed the automaker’s Automotive Safety Office of a durability test failure. Two eyelets on a 2027 Mustang test vehicle broke, causing the vehicle to lose motive power.
Further analysis uncovered that the potential concern existed on current production models, and Ford issued a stop-ship on 2026 model-year Mustangs that same day.
Over the next two months, Ford’s Critical Concern Group reviewed the issue and identified eight warranty claims, half of which occurred within the first three months of ownership. The automaker said it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
Ford will fix the problem by replacing the four wiring harness ground terminals with revised eyelet pigtails. These feature a “redesigned stepped-neck terminal geometry” that “eliminates clamp-up interference and out-of-plane bending stress under vehicle vibration.”

Motor1’s Take: If you own a current-generation Mustang, be on the lookout for notice from Ford to bring in your car for the free repair. This does not appear to be a widespread issue and should be a relatively easy fix.
