He pointed out that during the height of the Attitude Era, booking decisions were never based on locker room popularity or the opinions of the dirt sheet. Instead, success was measured by a single metric of who drew money.

“I will ALWAYS first and foremost look at Professional Wrestling/Sports Entertainment as only one thing . . . a BUSINESS . . . because that’s what it’s about. @VinceMcMahon taught me that from DAY ONE. My job was to GET AS MANY PEOPLE TO WATCH AS POSSIBLE. The more EYE BALLS the more Merch Sales, PPV Buys (now Subscriptions), House Show Ticket Sales, etc.. Everything fed off of HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE WATCHING THE SHOW every Monday Night (and later Thursday with SmackDown). During the “Attitude Era” it was never about “Favorites”, or Who was “Popular in the Dressing Room”, or who “Deserved it” because they put so many years in the business, or who the Dirt Sheet Writers were clamoring for, it was always about ONE THING . . . WHO DREW. And the RATINGS told you that every second of every show. And, that’s the same way it should be today. Nothing has Changed. That’s . . . how BUSINESS WORKS,” wrote Vince Russo.

Paul Heyman was almost fired by Vince McMahon

At ECW One Night Stand 2005, Paul Heyman wanted Sandman to enter with the Metallica song Enter Sandman. However, WWE head at that time, Vince McMahon, did not agree with it and had creative clashes with Heyman. The Oracle told this story on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet.

“One Night Stand 2005 was a magnificent event that was as authentic an ECW presentation as we could put on in 2005, including but not limited to, but certainly highlighted by the Sandman’s entrance, which I fought for to the point of almost getting fired…” said Paul Heyman.

Paul recalls that at one point, he fought so passionately that he risked his job and could’ve been fired by Vince McMahon. However, that turned out pretty well, and the pop for actually Enter Sandman on Sandman’s entrance was insane.
