It seems that rather than deciding that today will be rated low, WWE has made sure that they put together a massive show for the fans who watch RAW over The World Cup, and Sean Ross Sapp on Select Answers recently confirmed that CM Punk’s return is planned for tonight’s RAW.

It has been hinted for several weeks that Punk will be back in Chicago, but it seems that the pull of the World Cup has forced the company to call him back and potentially set up a massive title match at SummerSlam.

WWE SummerSlam is already shaping up to be huge

WWE SummerSlam already has Roman Reigns defending his World title against Seth Rollins, whilst Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar are set to collide in Hell in a Cell. Iyo Sky has also already chosen Liv Morgan as the person she will challenge when she cashes in her Queen of the Ring victory.

It seems that CM Punk is returning to be part of the Undisputed Championship angle and will either interfere in the match or challenge the winner. Either way, it’s interesting that Punk would rather go after that title than Roman Reigns, who defeated him at WrestleMania.

Reigns still has the title, which means that if Punk came back a week earlier, he would have a rematch clause and would be able to challenge Reigns. Instead, WWE has pulled the trigger on another former Shield member showdown, which leaves Punk to challenge either Sami Zayn or Cody Rhodes.

The explanation from Punk when he does return tonight will be interesting since he would have had that title shot waiting since WrestleMania.
