WWE legend says he’ll return to work but only if Vince McMahon is back

Long then admitted that if he had to get back to work, it would only be under Vince McMahon’s terms:

“I have that Legends deal, so if they call me, I have to go to work… I’ll do what I’m told, what I have to do. But if I had to go back, I wish it would be under the whims of Vince McMahon.”

Teddy Long previously said he was retired and thanked Vince McMahon

Although Teddy Long said that he would get back to work if it were under Vince McMahon’s whims, he also knows that the odds of it happening are extremely unlikely at this point.

Previously, on Road Trip After Hours with Mac Davis, Teddy Long confirmed that he wasn’t returning and was effectively retired:

“It’s not like it used to be. There ain’t no live events, much now anyways, so I wouldn’t be on the road, just do TV. But I’m at home, I sleep in my own bed almost every night. I love going out and doing the signings. I was in Vegas for Wrestle Con. I’ll be in Minneapolis for Summerslam. I’ll be there for the signings. I just enjoy doing those, man. And getting on the plane and going home. I’m not one of these guys that don’t know when to take the cape off. I know when to take the cape off. I had a great run. Thanks to God and Vince McMahon. I ain’t bitter about a thing. That ain’t gonna happen, they ain’t calling me.”

It’s good that Long has no bitterness whatsoever. He seems to understand that it is a new regime, but has maintained his eternal loyalty to McMahon and the old regime. More than the overall regime itself, it seems to be McMahon to whom Teddy Long is immensely loyal.

That’s why, despite all that has happened with McMahon, especially between June 2022 and January 2024, the former SmackDown General Manager has maintained the same stance, as his life was made objectively better due to his relationship with his old boss.
