John Cena was asked about his prediction for the Night One main event during an interview with Sports Illustrated. The 17-time world champion noted that while he has known both men for a long time, he can’t bet against The Legend Killer.

“I can’t bet against Randy Orton. I’ve known him for so long, I’ve known both of them for so long. And I’ve been in a similar position as a mentor for Cody, a teacher for Cody, someone Cody wanted approval from. It didn’t really matter, the kid’s a success anyway.

Cena added that Randy Orton has the same vibe about him as he had during his feud with Cody Rhodes last year:

“I just think Randy’s got something to prove. I know what it feels like to say, ‘I want 17 and I’ll do anything to get it.’ Cody was the guy I took it from. Randy’s got that vibe about him, that’s pretty special.”

John Cena defeated both Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton during his final WWE run

While John Cena will be the host of WrestleMania 42, he was an active in-ring competitor last year. Cena defeated Cody Rhodes in his last WrestleMania match. The 17-time world champion went on to pick up a victory over Randy Orton at the very next WWE premium live event, Backlash.

Cena eventually dropped the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes. He competed in his last match in December, where he was defeated by Gunther. The 17-time world champion will return to the company for the first time since retirement, this time as a host.
