- Stellantis is launching two new cars in the United States that will start at under $30,000.
- They are expected to be the new Chrysler Arrow and Arrow Cross compact crossovers.
- We expect they will feature some form of electrification.
It only takes a glance at Stellantis’ current lineup in the United States to see how weak it is versus the competition. It doesn’t currently offer a broad range of vehicles, but that will change in the next few years. Not only does the automaker plan to launch seven new products here, but two of them will start at under $30,000.
Affordability is a big issue for the industry, as the average price of a new car hits $50,000. Consumers say they want cheaper options, and Stellantis is hoping to meet that demand.
The two models are expected to be the Chrysler Arrow and Arrow Cross, a pair of compact SUVs that will bolster the brand’s lineup. The automaker might already have shown the vehicle to dealers, who allegedly saw a car late last year called the Pronto that started in the $20,000 range.
The two Chrysler crossovers will have distinct looks, with one featuring a sleek, swoopy, coupe-like design. The new Arrow and Arrow Cross will likely compete against crossovers like the Buick Encore GX and the sleek Buick Envista.
We have no idea what kind of powertrains Chrysler will offer in the Arrow, but we expect some form of electrification. We would not be surprised if the brand borrowed the new Hurricane 4 engine from Jeep for the new crossovers. It’s a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 325 horsepower.
Alongside the two Arrow models, Chrysler is also working on a mid-size SUV dubbed the Airflow. It should take inspiration from the Airflow concept, and it will likely cost under $40,000.
Motor1’s Take: The number of affordable models continues to dwindle, so Stellantis is launching two new sub-$30,000 cars that should grab buyers’ attention. Based on the automaker’s roadmap, it appears the automaker is positioning Chrysler as its mainstream brand.
