Tiger Woods has left golf commentators stunned on numerous occasions throughout his illustrious career in the game.
Woods has won a record-equalling 82 PGA Tour titles since 1996, including 15 major championships.

Not only was he the best golfer on the planet for well over a decade but he also completely transformed the game from what it once was.
Tiger Woods is the reason why the best golfers in the world today are earning the money they’re earning.
Sadly, we haven’t seen the 50-year-old play a competitive round of golf on the PGA Tour since July 2024.

And unfortunately, it now looks like Woods will not play at The Masters next month.
The list of Woods’ accomplishments makes him one of the two best golfers of all time, alongside Jack Nicklaus.
However, there is one record Tiger holds that Nicklaus didn’t even get close to matching.

Commentator left stunned as Tiger Woods barely made the cut in 2001
Back in 2001, Woods came very close to missing the cut at the Western Open (now the BMW Championship) at Cog Hill Golf Club in Lemont, Illinois.
He opened up with a round of 70 before shooting a 71 on day two, and it was only a late flurry of birdies that enabled him to make the cut, and keep his impressive streak going.
Woods obviously went on to make 142 cuts in a row, and holds that record by quite some margin.
Steve Sands was speaking about that record on Trey Wingo’s YouTube Channel, and shared a story about that day at Cog Hill when Woods’ cut streak nearly came to a disappointing end.

“One year at Cog Hill in the early 2000s, when the cut streak was going on,“ Sands explained.

“I think Tiger was four back of the cut-line, four off the cut-line on Friday afternoon.
“He was playing late in the afternoon, and he birdied the final four to make the cut.“
What an incredible mentality Woods possessed.
However, it was his full focus and commitment to playing the best golf he possibly could every single time he went out on the golf course that was perhaps the most impressive thing about him.
What Tiger Woods told Steve Sands about making the cut
“And I remember, I was doing interviews back then, and I was there for Golf Channel, and talking to him afterwards,“ Sands said.
“Then after we were done, he put his arm on my shoulder and said, ‘You know what people just don’t understand? I try just as hard in the beginning, and the middle, as I do at the end. When I saw that I was four back of the cut line and needed to finish strong, it’s not like I tried any harder to finish strong. I just play the same way all the time, whether it’s Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday’.

“And that day, I remember walking away thinking, ‘man, that was one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen’.
“I’ve seen a lot of guys on the PGA Tour who are that far off the cut line late on a Friday, and they’re probably thinking, you know, about checking out of a hotel and getting on a flight that night.
“And Tiger was never thinking that. It’s a remarkable streak, 142 in a row.“
Scottie Scheffler is the current world number one golfer, and he has made an impressive 70 cuts in a row.
However, he is not even halfway to the record that Tiger Woods set – one that finally came to an end in May 2005.
And that proves just how competitive Woods was in his heyday.
