During the run, Reigns feuded with a lot of top names but struggled to get over with the fans in his role. The promotion tried many ways of making him the all-conquering babyface, and one of those attempts involved creating a stable for him to take down.

In an interview on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Rusev talked about the League of Nations faction. Apart from The Bulgarian Brute, the stable consisted of Sheamus, Wade Barrett, and Alberto Del Rio.

Rusev said he felt that the purpose of the group was to feud with Roman Reigns, and that was why it was created in the first place.

“I think they needed somebody for Roman, to be honest. I think that’s how they came up with it. It was not like, ‘Oh, we have this great idea for these four guys.’ I think they needed somebody for Roman to be a babyface, and that’s why they put us together, which was fun,” he said. The League of Nations was formed in 2015 after Sheamus won the WWE Championship following a Money in the Bank cash-in on Reigns. It feuded with many top stars of the brand and defeated The New Day at WrestleMania 32. After the match, the group was attacked by Mick Foley, Shawn Michaels, and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Roman Reigns will return to RAW in March

After announcing his intention to go after CM Punk and the World Heavyweight Title on RAW after Royal Rumble, Roman Reigns has been away from TV.

Despite being advertised for next week’s RAW, he won’t be on the show. Recently, Reigns’ live dates on the Road to WrestleMania were revealed, and his next appearance is scheduled for March 2, two days after Elimination Chamber.

He is scheduled to appear on more dates, including the final episode of RAW before WrestleMania 42.
