Nonetheless, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk once again joined forces at the live event in Springfield last night, where they defeated Gunther and Sami Zayn in a rematch from SNME. After the match, the American Nightmare elbowed Punk in the face as Punk tried to approach him. While the former AEW EVP tried to pass it off as an accident, footage from a fan shows the attack was deliberate. The two then got into an altercation, and officials had to come out to stop them.

Cody Rhodes has been the biggest babyface in WWE since his return to the company. However, The American Nightmare’s current character has been described as stale by many, with fans hoping for him to turn heel. Could SummerSlam finally be the night? We will find out on Saturday!

WWE official teased reigniting feud with Cody Rhodes

While Cody Rhodes currently has his hands full with CM Punk, his former rival has also teased reigniting the feud between them after eight years. The American Nightmare had a brief rivalry with Nick Aldis in NWA, and now that both are a part of WWE, the SmackDown General Manager talked about a potential match between them:

“Who knows? I think that we’ve already leaned into it from time to time anyway. Again, trying not to speak on Hunter’s behalf. I think his general philosophy, when it comes to that kind of thing, is if you know, you know. So we can’t make it the whole story, but it can be part of a story, which I think has been a healthy approach to his storytelling. I think you could say the same for some of the stuff you’ve seen with guys who were in the Bullet Club. There’s nods to it, but you’re making it where you’re completely out of the know if you’re unfamiliar with what they’re referencing.”

While Nick Aldis joined WWE in 2023, he stayed in the General Manager role for three years. However, he will don his wrestling boots at SummerSlam, where he will face Gunther in a singles match.
