The match takes place after the two stars started getting in each other’s way on SmackDown and Cargill issued the challenge to the Buff Barbie. Cargill could walk out as the winner with a reported match against Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam, lying in wait.
On the recent episode of his Wrestling with Freddie podcast, former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. discussed this match. He said it was tough to call who would win but backed Stratton to retain the title because she hasn’t had it for long. Prinze Jr. also said a defeat would damage her.
“I think that’s the only reason she retains is because it hasn’t been on her that long and it would do more damage for her to lose than it would for Jade to lose,” he said.
Stratton and Cargill feuded last year as well and competed in the Women’s Championship match at SummerSlam. Stratton successfully defended her Title back then, but Cargill won the Championship from her at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in November.
Tiffany Stratton suffered a loss ahead of WWE Night of Champions
This week on WWE SmackDown, Tiffany Stratton teamed up with Alexa Bliss to take on B-Fab and Michin in a tag team match.
The Baddies isolated Bliss for most of the match, but things turned around when Stratton got involved late in the contest. However, interference by Jade Cargill gave her stablemates the advantage.
B-Fab hit the Women’s US champion with an X-Factor to pin her and win the match for her team. Later, as the trio targeted Stratton, Chelsea Green ran in to make the save with a kendo stick.
Green sent Michin outside the ring, as she, Stratton, and Alexa Bliss stood tall in the ring to end the segment.
