Las Vegas is no stranger to surprises of all stripes.

The Strip is a place where many a stranger has become a friend.

And vice versa.

But just northeast of town, halfway between Nellis Air Force base and the Nellis Dunes, there’s a big-league racetrack that doesn’t do surprises. In 34 Cup Series races since its 1998 debut, on all but two occasions, the list of race winners includes nothing but NASCAR Hall of Famers and those who will be eventually.

The last five have been won by Joey Logano (twice), Kyle Larson (twice) and William Byron. The “other” two winners, by the way, weren’t exactly mid-pack journeymen — Sterling Marlin during his best (yet abbreviated) season in 2002 and Alex Bowman three seasons ago.

It kinda bodes well for Christopher Bell as he attempts to become just the second Cup racer to win four of the season’s first five races. But also for all those other upper-tier racers and teams looking to get victory out of the way and secure their playoff berth.

And guess what … it’s all on color TV.
