Jack Nicklaus is widely considered the best golfer of all-time.

Nicklaus’ record of 18 major championship victories is yet to be surpassed, while he has the third-most PGA Tour wins of all time, with 73 to his name.

He achieved the majority of his wins when coming up against true giants of the game including the likes of Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Tom Watson.

Jack Nicklaus is a long-time admirer of Tiger Woods, and has regularly suggested that he is the greatest golfer in the history of the game.

However, Woods is not Nicklaus’ favorite currently active golfer to watch play.

Jack Nicklaus named Scottie Scheffler as the player he loves watching the most

Nicklaus sat down for a press conference after Scottie Scheffler won the Memorial Tournament for the second time in a row in June 2025.

The 86-year-old was asked to share his honest opinion on the world number one’s golf game.

He reminds me so much of the way I like to play, Nicklaus replied after watching Scheffler’s four-shot victory.

I don’t think I played nearly as well as he played. He’s playing better than I played and more consistent.

He’s just been playing fantastic, and I love watching him the most.

It takes some doing for Jack Nicklaus to be that impressed.

The Golden Bear obviously sees much of himself in Scheffler and that is probably the biggest compliment the man from Dallas, Texas, will ever receive.

The sky is the limit for Scottie Scheffler according to Jack Nicklaus

After Scheffler won the Memorial Tournament back in June, Nicklaus was asked how far he believes the 29-year-old can go in the game.

He has the ability to bring his level to whatever level it needs to be, the Golden Bear responded.

That’s what good players do. And he’s not a good player, he’s a great player.

Look at the record that he has had the last few years, it’s unbelievable.

Scheffler’s next challenge will be to continue winning majors and PGA Tour events at a regular clip for the next decade or so.

If he continues along his current trajectory, he will have won 10 majors and 50 PGA Tour tournaments by the time he’s 35.

While that may be an unsustainable level of form, if anyone can do it, Scottie Scheffler can.
