Ford recently turned the Ranger into something considerably more rugged with the new Super Duty trim. Unfortunately, it’s only for Australia—meaning we won’t see Ford’s toughest Ranger on this side of the globe anytime soon. But buyers in Australia are already loving it.
Speaking to Australia’s Drive, President and CEO of Ford Australia and New Zealand, Fadi Mawal, told the outlet that the beefed-up pickup is already outselling some of its closest rivals. Yes, that potentially includes the iconic Land Cruiser 70 Series. Mawal said:
‘Super Duty is going really, really strong from both great demand from retail, private customers, and industry. A lot of industry/commercial customers are buying Super Duty.’

Ford Says The Super Duty Is Selling Fast
Mawal said that Ranger Super Duty remains extremely strong, with the truck “significantly” outselling its rivals. Ford hasn’t said exactly how many Super Duty models it’s sold in 2026, but it seems like the rugged truck is already off to a good start.
The Ranger Super Duty was made specifically for buyers needing more capability than what’s offered in the standard Ranger. That means extensive hardware upgrades underneath the familiar Ranger body.
Ford strengthened the chassis and fitted heavy-duty suspension components, differentials, driveshafts, wheel hubs, brakes, and cooling systems. Power comes from the familiar 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6, making 205 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive with low range.
The Ranger Super Duty can tow up to 9,921 pounds, while payload capacity reaches roughly 4,409 pounds depending on configuration. Those figures put it well beyond what most conventional mid-size pickups are designed to handle.

Ford Is Expanding The Lineup
Ford initially launched the Ranger Super Duty in Australia in cab-chassis form, but the lineup has since grown. Standard pickup versions and an XLT grade are now part of the range, giving buyers more ways to configure the truck depending on their needs.
And Ford sees the Ranger Super Duty as more than an Australian niche product. The truck is expanding into additional markets, including South Africa, while Ford is exploring potential applications for government and defense fleets.
If buyers continue responding the way they have so far, the Ranger Super Duty could be a surprising hit for the Blue Oval. Now it’s only a matter of time before that success makes its way to America…
