The San Francisco 49ers have been the beneficiaries of compensatory picks in the NFL Draft for the previous handful of seasons. You have to go back to 2020, when the last time the Niners didn’t have a comp pick.
According to Over the Cap, the 49ers aren’t expected to receive a comp pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. That’s because the moves the 49ers made offset the losses they had in free agency—three players who signed free-agent deals qualified for the compensatory formula.

Kendrick Bourne’s deal with Arizona, Jordan Elliott’s deal with the Titans, and Spencer Burford’s contract with the Raiders were all enough to qualify for a comp pick. Now, those would have been seventh-round picks due to the low annual salary, but a pick is a pick.
Skyy Moore’s signing with the Packers did not qualify. Flipping to the players the 49ers signed, Brett Toth’s deal also did not count against the formula. Moore and Toth’s deals were $2.5 million for one year.
Vederian Lowe’s $4.63 million deal crossed out Bourne’s. Christian Kirk’s $3 million deal crossed out Elliotts. And, believe it or not, Mike Evans’s $14.17 annual signing negated the loss of Burford. Three signings that counted against the formula were lost. Three signings that counted against the formula gained, and that’s how the 49ers will be without a comp pick for the first time this decade.
The 49ers own each of their first five picks in each round. They lost their sixth-rounder in the Skyy Moore trade, but recouped that in a trade with Baltimore this year. San Francisco also owns the Chiefs’ seventh-rounder, so they’ll have a selection in each round next year…for now.
