As many college football programs move to an NFL-style model in their personnel departments, the Texas Longhorns are expected to hire longtime NFL scout Chris Watts, according to a Wednesday report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.

A Langston University product, Watts got his start in the NFL as a scouting intern for the New York Giants in 2005 before spending 15 years as a full-time scout for the organization. After working for the Giants, Watts became a regional scout for the Reese’s Senior Bowl in 2021, taking a role as a general manager in the USSFL after only six months on the Senior Bowl staff to return to scouting in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022, a job he held until March.

Now head coach Steve Sarkisian and general manager Brandon Harris will have a scout with NFL experience in the personnel department to help evaluate high school and transfer portal prospects.
