The Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi is expected to miss Inter Milan’s debut at the Club World Cup due to off-field circumstances.

The player was on vacation in his home country and so far has not been able to leave Iran due to the war that broke out with Israel.

The striker is stuck in the capital, Tehran, after Iranian airports were blocked by attacks from the Israeli Air Force.

The Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport and the channel Sky reported the case this Saturday (14).

Thus, Taremi is expected to be absent from the Italian team against Monterrey, in a match scheduled for next Tuesday (17).

And he may not even be able to travel to the USA to participate in the tournament organized by FIFA.

Inter is in contact with the player and is studying ways to get him out of the Middle East.

Also according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter “has maintained close contact with the Iranian authorities in Italy over the past 24 hours to comfort the player and try to find a solution that is currently impossible.”

The athlete is in a safe location in Tehran and protected from the bombings, as also reported by the newspaper.

It is worth noting that Israel and Iran exchanged attacks between Thursday and Friday (13), bringing the conflict between the countries to an unprecedented level.

Which, as things stand, does not seem likely to end anytime soon.
