The New Orleans Saints’ busy offseason has been great to see, but what has made it even better is that the Saints have not been forced to restructure many contracts. Given where the cap space was entering free agency, the Saints did need to restructure contracts, but they were selective about whom they did it with. Chase Young, Juwan Johnson, Justin Reid, and Erick McCoy are all players who are long-term pillars of the team, so moving that cap space makes sense. Alvin Kamara was also restructured, but in a way that allows flexibility to move on if need be.

The contract moves allowed the Saints to have a great free agency window, but they had one more player that could be restructured that would make sense, and that’s Carl Granderson. Cesar Ruiz and Pete Werner could also have been restructured, but their futures are very much up in the air, especially compared to the other players listed earlier. Granderson was someone the Saints could restructure, but they didn’t have to. Well, this morning, New Orleans did make the contract move, opening up $8.59 million, per Katherine Terrell.
