During the contract signing segment, Stone announced that Fatu’s first WWE match will be for the NXT Championship. He added the former HOG Crown Jewel Champion to the title bout at the upcoming premium live event on August 30.
On tonight’s episode of WWE NXT, Tony D’Angelo appeared in a backstage interview. He addressed the challengers for his NXT Championship, including Zilla Fatu. During the chat, D’Angelo revealed that Fatu joined the black-and-silver brand to carve out his own path and win the NXT Championship rather than join his cousins in the Roman Reigns-led Bloodline on RAW.
“Zilla Fatu chose to carve out his own career instead of going with The Bloodline for this [points at the NXT Championship],” D’Angelo said.
In the same promo, Tony D’Angelo reminded his rivals how he defeated three superstars to win the NXT Championship and how he was the only Grand Slam Champion in the black-and-silver brand. D’Angelo ultimately promised to walk out of Heatwave with the title around his waist.
