There was a monumental shift at Olympique de Marseille on Tuesday morning. On Sunday, Medhi Benatia announced his resignation from his role as sporting director. His exit followed that of manager Roberto De Zerbi just days earlier. However, OM’s owner, Frank McCourt, has now reinstated Benatia, as confirmed in a communiqué on Tuesday morning. Not only that, but the Moroccan has been given even greater responsibility at the expense of club president Pablo Longoria.
Longoria set for McCourt talks
The communiqué confirmed that Benatia would remain at Marseille until the end of the season, whilst also stating that Longoria’s role would “evolve”. Benatia now has full control of the sporting project, with Longoria now reduced to more of a representative role.

Mohamed Toubache-Ter now understands that Longoria wishes to leave OM, rather than accept the new distribution of power at the Vélodrome. The Spaniard will now discuss his exit with McCourt.
