During the hearing, Nick Khan was asked about other things that could be introduced in boxing as part of the reformation of the Ali Act that would help fighters, apart from health and safety.

Khan gave an example of WWE providing Legends contracts to its retired wrestlers. He officially revealed that over a hundred retired stars are currently under this contract, which helps them financially after their in-ring career is over.

Nick highlighted that they get to participate in video games and receive trading card deals, merchandise deals, and action figure deals as part of this contract, which was missing in the world of professional boxing.

“So, WWE, for example, has over a hundred deals with what we call our Legends. Our retired wrestlers. So, they receive compensation from us for years after their retirement from the ring because of their participation in our video games, trading card deals, merchandise deals, and action figures,” he said.

WWE President Nick Khan used Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao’s example

During the Ali Act hearing, Nick Khan gave an example of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Khan mentioned that despite being two of the greatest boxers of their generation, they don’t have any action figures and are not featured in any video games because of boxing’s broken system.

“Think about this, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, the two fighters of that generation could not buy an action figure of them. You cannot buy a video game of them. It doesn’t exist because of this broken system. Part of the reason that Mayweather [and] Pacquiao took 6 years to make. You’ve heard people say, ‘Well, it’s Floyd, it’s Floyd.’ The two promoters of that event, they simply didn’t like each other,” he added.

Nick Khan also highlighted that boxing could use something like WWE’s Performance Center for its up-and-coming talent. It remains to be seen if the Ali Revival Act will get the green light from the Senate.
