In the realm of affordable sports cars, the Mazda Miata remains the cheapest option.
The 2026 Toyota GR86 starts at $32,395, including the $1,195 destination charge, and packs a 2.4-liter boxer engine making 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The mechanically similar Subaru BRZ starts at $37,055 after Subaru discontinued the entry-level model for 2026.
The Ford Mustang, which features a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, starts at $34,635. The engine produces a lot more power than the Miata, BRZ, and GR86, making 315 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel.
That’s a decent amount of power for the price, but Ford neuters the fun by only offering the engine paired with the 10-speed automatic. If you want a manual, you must upgrade to the Mustang GT that starts at $48,555. That’s a lot of money, but the 480-hp Mustang is cheaper than the 2026 Golf R.
