Aldis’ feud with Gunther led to a match being scheduled at SummerSlam. While the former TNA Champion put up a brave defence and a fantastic performance, he was ultimately defeated by Gunther.
According to a recent report by WrestleVotes on Fightful Select, the internal belief in the company is that Nick Aldis is not done with in-ring wrestling just yet. However, the report claimed that Aldis may not be another match until 2027. It was further stated that many backstage believe that Aldis surpasses several other names on the roster in terms of talent, and that a significant in-ring return would be welcomed.

According to Nick Aldis, he only had about a month to prepare for his match against Gunther.
Speaking on WWE Now, Nick Aldis stated:
“That’s the first thing I told Ed Koskey when I first found out about this. Look, to find out quite out of the blue you can have a match with one of the top guys in the world, top guy in the company, at SummerSlam, in a stadium, amazing.; But when he told me, that was in Saudi Arabia, and I went ‘When is SummerSlam?’ August 1. And today’s June 30 or June 29. I was like ‘That’s a month.’,” he said.
He further stated that nothing could have prepared him for the match itself.
“God, I was so blown. Everyone talks about this and says there’s nothing that replicates working in the ring, and it really is true. I’ve been doing the most intense conditioning workouts for the last couple of weeks to get ready, and I’ve genuinely never trained that hard in my whole life. Still, just four minutes in, I was like, ‘Oh my God.’” [H/T ITR Wrestling]
