In a backstage interview, Jackie Redmond asked Gunther about the favor he gained from Paul Heyman. While he didn’t say it explicitly, he revealed that it more or less had to do with a World Heavyweight Championship opportunity.
Of course, it isn’t going to be that simple for him. Right as he expressed his World Title aspirations and teased a match against Roman Reigns (if he walks out of Backlash with the title intact), he was confronted by none other than LA Knight. The Megastar, who was also victorious at WrestleMania 42 in the very first match of the show, told Gunther that he too, is gunning for the World Title.
Knight, in particular, has beef with Roman Reigns due to what happened a few years ago at Crown Jewel 2023. Either way, one can likely expect a title eliminator between the two men at or after Backlash 2026.
