LIV Golf’s future is supposedly hanging in the balance, with plenty of uncertainty over its mere existence.

The uncertainty arrives just after the conclusion of The Masters, where 10 LIV Golf players entered but only five made the cut.

But more striking than its failures on the big stage have been other major developments of late, including the departures of two of its most high-profile players in Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed.

Another major change to the system involved the move from 54 holes to 72 holes, representing a complete identity loss for LIV Golf, but clearly the biggest setback of all is on the cards with a potential shutdown.

And rumours of a shutdown were intensified after LIV Golf cancelled press conferences yesterday due to ‘technical issues’, but fears over its future have now been played down.

LIV Golf insiders allay shutdown fears

Reacting to the news that LIV Golf could be shut down, Flushing It has reported on X: “I’ve spoken directly to multiple people within LIV Golf who all say they have had no issue with being paid.

“Future venues are proceeding as normal, with no indication that anything will change.

“And players are getting ready to tee it up in today’s pro am, fully expecting LIV Golf Mexico City to go ahead as planned.”

Bunkered’s Michael McEwan has also provided a similar update on the situation, posting on X: “I’ve spoken with multiple people close to LIV in the last few hours and the answer is the same: ‘business as usual’.

“They’re expecting this week’s event in Mexico City to go ahead as scheduled and have heard nothing to suggest the league shutting down is imminent. (Which is also not to say that it’s not, of course).”

Despite a positive update concerning the Saudi-backed tour, the uncertainty is set to continue until an official announcement from LIV Golf, which is indeed preparing for another tournament this week.

Hosted by Club de Golf Chapultepec, LIV Golf Mexico City is scheduled to start on Thursday and finish on Sunday.

What happens if LIV Golf is shut down?

It would be a complete shock to the system if LIV Golf was shut down, with nobody quite sure what would happen if that were indeed the case.

Having clearly attempted to serve as a rival to the PGA Tour, it hasn’t exactly gone to plan for those in charge.

But it could mean no more friction and a happy reunion within the golfing world, which is what almost everybody has been calling for for quite some time.

The top players could once again be competing against one another on a regular basis, and the world-class stars who defected to LIV Golf may just find their feet once more.

But that depends on whether they are accepted back onto the PGA Tour, and also simply if they want to, having clearly felt it was no longer for them when they left.

Either way, it will take some time for the ideal solution to arise, if indeed one is even needed given that rumours of a LIV Golf shutdown are only that and nothing more right now.
