The Prizefighter overcame all the odds and picked up the massive win on his very first night back after pinning Zayn. And now, in an interview with Faces Magazine, he has opened up on his state of mind just before making his return. He revealed that he was informed by his doctors in mid-July that he could get back in the ring.

And so he quickly began the process to get his WWE clearance. Elucidating on his restless state of mind, Kevin Owens said he was driving everyone crazy with questions regarding the timelines during the entire period. He wanted to know if there were ways to fast-track certain things, but was told there could be no shortcuts.

“Somehow, again, this is one of these cases where I’m kind of driving everybody nuts, and I kept asking how long until I’m cleared, how can I fast track it, what I can do to make it as soon as possible, this and that. And they were like ‘Well, there’s no shortcuts here. If this needs to happen, then it needs to happen,'” Kevin Owens said.

After he began the process to get cleared by WWE, he said that it was something that takes roughly up to four weeks. However, he revealed that he completed the process in just nine days. Being as restless as he was to return, he did the exact opposite of taking one thing on one day and another thing on the next.

“Usually, it takes about four weeks to get all of this done, I did it in nine days. I basically took everything they wanted me to do, and instead of doing one thing one day, one thing the next day, one thing a few days later, I just did everything back-to-back-to-back. And, at the end of that they’re like ‘alright, you’re cleared,’” Kevin Owens added. [H/T: Faces Magazine]

He worked tirelessly, and by the end of it, he was cleared to return in time for SummerSlam 2026. And now, he gets an Undisputed WWE Title shot this week on SmackDown in Toronto, with his family and friends watching.

In the same interview with Faces Magazine, Kevin Owens was asked why he chose Toronto as the venue for his Undisputed WWE Title Match against CM Punk.

Owens noted that the Toronto crowd was great and also that he’d had his last match before his injury hiatus in the same city. He revealed that when there was still uncertainty about whether he could return, he’d thought his Elimination Chamber 2025 match against Sami Zayn in the city was his last ever.

However, the biggest reason he mentioned wanting to have the bout in Toronto was that his family and friends were going to be there.

For now, it remains to be seen if Kevin Owens can finally lift the world title once again when he faces CM Punk for the Undisputed Title in Toronto tomorrow night on SmackDown.
