Former Women’s Champion Layla recently provided a blunt look at how WWE management handled female talent behind the curtain. She explained that producers regularly cut the time allotted to women’s matches at the last second. They would stand in the Gorilla position, waiting for their music to hit, and watch male wrestlers walk to the back and casually request extra television time.

“We had like, I’m not even kidding you, we’d be seen in Gorilla, and I’d watch the guys come by, and they’d be like, ‘We need, like, five, 10 minutes. Yeah. No, no, we need two minutes more here.’ And I’ll watch our time get chipped away. Not just me. But I’m the one that’s gonna say it. And they’ll be like, ‘Girls, you just got five minutes. Girls, you got two minutes. Okay, entrance is on dark.’ And you’re just like… and then so you go out there, you’ve got to tell a story, right? Get a match, do your entrances within 90 seconds.”

Former Women’s Champion reveals why another WWE run may not happen

WWE veteran Layla addressed the possibility of returning to the company, revealing why she is hesitant to commit to another full-time run.

Speaking about a potential return on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Layla admitted that she is cautious because she does not want to damage the legacy she built during her time in WWE. The former champion explained that she is proud of what she accomplished and would rather be remembered for those achievements than return in a role that doesn’t live up to expectations.

However, Layla added that she would be down to reunite with Michelle McCool for one last LayCool appearance.

“No, I’m too old, and I’m out of shape. I can’t say never, because I feel like if there was ever an opportunity for Michelle and I to do something like LayCool or something like that, of course. But not a run or anything. But if there was ever that opportunity, I think that would be so wrong of me not to do that. So to me, that would be the only thing I think I would come back for. But am I trying to have a match or anything like that right now? No. Sorry, no one wants to see it. I don’t want to embarrass myself, I don’t want to tarnish what I’ve had in my past career, kind of thing. So if I never come back, then I’ll just rather leave it the way it was,” Layla said.

With WWE continuing to bring back legends for major events such as the Royal Rumble, fans will undoubtedly continue to speculate about Layla’s return.

Layla stepped away from professional wrestling in 2015. It will be interesting to see what’s next for the veteran.
