Balor took to social media to reveal that Owens called him ten years ago after he won the Universal Championship and did the same after his return at SummerSlam. However, Owens held up his cat instead of the title during the call this time, and Balor hilariously claimed that he should have rejected the call.

“2026 vs 2016. I should have declined the call this time,” he wrote.

CM Punk defeated Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship. Randy Orton interfered in the match and hit Rhodes with an RKO.

WWE SmackDown star breaks character to praise Finn Balor

SmackDown star Sami Zayn broke character to praise Finn Balor ahead of their match at SummerSlam.

In an interview with ESPN, The Last Real Good Guy noted that Balor was an incredible performer, and they both have had similar journeys in professional wrestling.

“Finn Balor, look, unbelievable, unbelievable. I can’t say enough good things about him as a performer. He has his own journey too. I mean, he won it for a day. It’s not actually terribly dissimilar from me in some ways. He won it, held it for a day because of an injury and that was it, and now he’s been trying to chase that and get back to that for ten years, and it’s similar to me in the sense that it felt like something that was within my grasp ten years ago, and I just have to keep beating my head against the wall to finally get there,” he said.

Only time will tell when Kevin Owens will challenge CM Punk for the title in the weeks ahead.
