It’s a unique event with some unusual scoring formats and through Day 1, it’s Team Europe taking charge at the 2025 Skechers World Champions Cup supporting Shriners Children’s.

A team competition featuring golfers from the PGA Tour Champions, the Skechers event has three teams – U.S., Europe and International – facing off in a Ryder Cup/Presidents Cup style tournament at Feather Sound Country Club in Clearwater, Florida.

What are the formats for the Skechers World Champions Cup?

The Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup has foursomes, fourballs and singles. Now, get ready for Scotch sixsomes, sixballs and singles. The Skechers World Champions Cup will be contested across 24 nine-hole groupings featuring team and singles play. Each team has six players, including a playing captain, and all six play in each of the sessions.

What happened in Day 1 of the Skechers World Champions Cup?

Europe leads after one day (two sessions) with 57 points. The U.S. and the International squad are tied with 52 ½ points.

In the Thursday morning sixball format, Alex Cejka and Soren Kjeldsen teamed up for 10 ½ points, a number matched but the International duo of Mark Hensby and Y.E. Yang. Thomas Bjorn and Darren Clarke added 10 points to the European morning total, while Steven Alker and Mike Weir added the same total to the International scoreboard.

In the Thursday afternoon sixsomes, it was the Bjorn/Clarke duo posting 11 points, the most of any session on the first day. They made birdie on seven of the nine holes in that session.

Where to watch, follow the 2025 Skechers World Champions Cup

ESPN has coverage of the first two days (Thursday, Dec. 4 and Friday, Dec. 5). Saturday is an off day from competition with only a pro-am taking place. On Sunday, the action moves to network TV as ABC picks up the final-round coverage on Sunday, Dec. 7.
