Gunther, Balor, and Punk delivered a hard-hitting match on WWE SmackDown. Given the star power involved, it was hard to predict the bout’s winner. The Ring General arguably dominated his opponents for the majority of the showdown. He initially didn’t let The Second City Saint gain momentum. However, The Prince took the fight to the Austrian superstar.
In the latter stages of the match, CM Punk bounced back and hit a Flying Elbow Drop on Gunther. He also took out Balor with a Bulldog. The Prince and The Second City Saint later locked The Ring General in a double Boston Crab. However, the former World Heavyweight Champion managed to survive.
Gunther seemed set to win the match when he delivered a powerbomb to Punk, but The Best in the World displayed remarkable resiliency. A frustrated Ring General locked Punk in the Sleeper Hold in the final stages of the bout. Balor came out of nowhere and hit a Coup de Grace on the 39-year-old.
CM Punk capitalized on the opening by pinning Gunther and stealing a massive win. With the victory, the former Undisputed WWE Champion secured a spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. The Best in the World now aims to secure the coveted contract for the third time in his career and reach a history-making milestone.
