Carmelo Hayes started off 2026 on a great note as he won the Men’s United States Championship off of Ilja Dragunov. Many fans thought that Carmelo was heading into WrestleMania as the United States Champion. However, he lost the title to Sami Zayn just a few weeks before the event. Since then, Hayes has been feuding with Ricky Saints on SmackDown. He was also part of the recent WWE European tour and wrestler across several different countries.

European crowds are known to be louder than the usual ones WWE and always make sure to serenade their favourite stars. Carmelo Hayes took to X to thank the European fans for the love they showed and promised them that he will be back to entertain them.

“Thank You England, Spain, Portugal, France and Italy for all the love. One of the best experiences of my career. Be back soon 🫡🎯🙏🏾,” he wrote.

It’s great to see the former NXT Champion receive the flowers he deserves from the European fans.

Shawn Michaels warned Carmelo Hayes after he didn’t make it to WrestleMania 42

Carmelo was all set to defend his United States Championship against Trick Williams at WrestleMania 42 before Sami Zayn defeated him for the title and took his place. Hayes was very disheartened after not being able to make it to the WrestleMania card. While speaking on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? Podcast, Shawn Michaels recalled warning Hayes about the reality of the business.

“I’ve looked at Melo and said, ‘This business is the way that it is. And sometimes, the best people are not always gonna finish i.n first place. It’s just that you may have to work harder than somebody else to get half as much.’ I don’t know if it’s my job to teach him about life. I will go ahead and leave that to their parents, but I need to at least do my best to teach them about this job. And yes, it is life,” said HBK.

It will be interesting to see what’s next for Carmelo Hayes under Triple H’s creative.
