Her last title defense came at Clash in Italy, where she successfully retained her gold against Jade Cargill.
Shortly after, Mami took a leave of absence to recover from her injuries. Unfortunately, her injury was much worse than initially thought, forcing her to miss SummerSlam this year.
In her absence, WWE crowned Chelsea Green as the interim Women’s Champion at the Biggest Party of the Summer.
She defeated Tiffany Stratton, Lash Legend, Jade Cargill, and Charlotte Flair in a 5-Woman Ladder Match to reach the pinnacle of her career. Just when fans thought a feud between Ripley and Green was in the works, the Eradicator shared more disappointing news.
She took to her social media to announce that she successfully underwent knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
In the wake of her announcement, Chelsea Green was introduced as the Women’s Champion on SmackDown after SummerSlam, dropping the “interim” label.
On the other hand, Rhea Ripley was quietly removed from the champions section of WWE’s roster page, seemingly confirming that she was stripped of her title. Fans have since been wondering how long Mami will remain on the sidelines.
According to Fightful Select, she is expected to be out of action for ‘a number of months.’ It’s safe to assume that the Australian star will miss the remainder of 2026.
WWE is hopeful that she will be back in time for the Royal Rumble premium live event next year.
Rhea Ripley has a message for the WWE Universe
Rhea Ripley took to X to share a post-surgery photo of her right leg wrapped up in a brace, with the caption reading:
“Life update. After just under 14 year in wrestling and doing sports my entire life… It’s caught up to me. Surgery was never a first option for me, but it got to the point that it was needed… First one down… Hopefully no more… I’ve survived, now it’s time to start thriving again so I can get back to what I love to do! See you all down the road.”
You can check out her tweet below:
Mami has since been receiving an outpouring of love and support from fans and fellow WWE Superstars.
We at Sportskeeda Wrestling wish Rhea Ripley a speedy recovery!
