An update on the 48-year-old legend’s future has come to the fore, and it doesn’t seem like fans have seen the last of Brock Lesnar in a wrestling ring.
The Beast Incarnate and the Nigerian Ruler opened WrestleMania Sunday in a clash of two behemoths. Despite being a favorite heading into the match, Brock Lesnar was no match for Oba Femi.
The Bringer of War squashed the Alpha Male of Our Species in less than five minutes. After the match, the Ruler made an imaginary gesture of a cowboy hat as a sign of respect before walking to the back.
But it wasn’t until Brock Lesnar put his shoes and gloves in the middle of the ring that the WWE Universe started to sink in that the greatest combat athlete in sports history had seemingly retired.
Some fans were still waiting for the official confirmation from WWE, and they got one the following night on RAW. Michael Cole confirmed that Brock Lesnar had called time on his iconic career.
WWE also aired a video package to celebrate the Beast Incarnate’s career. However, some fans are still holding out hope for his potential return ahead of SummerSlam in his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio, some people within WWE believe Brock Lesnar isn’t retiring yet, at least not before the Biggest Party of the Summer.
“Based on people in WWE, they believe he’s not retiring yet. Although he is retiring at some point probably this year. I don’t know that anyone knows. This might be one of those things where everything is being kept quiet like the Seth Rollins thing. A couple people have mentioned it. That’s the belief. So, we’ll see. I’m not saying this is for sure because I don’t know if anyone knows for sure, but there’s a couple things.” (H/T – Wrestlepurists)
What did Triple H say about Brock Lesnar’s WWE retirement?
In an interview with ESPN, Triple H said he had no idea Brock Lesnar was going to call it quits at WrestleMania 42.
“Well, it certainly seemed that way. Brock is not a walk back through the curtain and have a long conversation guy. Brock walks back very angry, go to his bus, and that is the end of it. So there wasn’t a discussion afterward. They see Brock as this hulking brute—the Beast, right? But there comes a point when somebody comes along that’s bigger and better and pushes you to a place you can’t come back from.”
The Game further cited The Beast’s WrestleMania 42 loss to the Ruler as the reason behind his retirement.
“The smart ones know when that happens, and they call it a day. I don’t think that was planned. I think Brock went to the ring and walked into a wall called Oba Femi. Brock walked up to the next big thing and ran into a brick wall, and the intelligence in him said, ‘Maybe I should call it a day.’ So he took his boots off, and he put his gloves down, and he walked away. That is not a statement of Brock being afraid of it. That is an intelligent man meeting something that cannot be stopped. It’s as much a statement of Oba as it is of Brock Lesnar. You just witnessed a changing of the guard at the apex of our business.”
Brock Lesnar has yet to break his silence on his future. Meanwhile, all eyes are on Gunther as he expects Paul Heyman to return the favor for taking care of the Seth Rollins problem at WrestleMania 42.
Is the Ring General vs. the Beast on the cards for SummerSlam 2026? Only time will tell.
