Asuka faced IYO SKY at WWE Backlash. There, the two stars had a huge match, bringing an end to their year-long rivalry, and Asuka finally lost. It appeared then that she was retiring and bringing an end to her career as she broke character and burst into tears, hugging IYO SKY and bidding farewell to her. She also bid farewell to the crowd.

However, since then, it has become clear that this is not exactly a normal WWE retirement. There have been reports that she is semi-retired, while others have claimed that she is taking time off for personal reasons as well. Fightful Select has now reported on it and said that those that they spoke to said that the star was not retired and had not wrestled her final match yet.

There was also a unanimous response that she was very well loved among the locker room and all the staff, with her getting praise. A higher up complimented her as well, saying that she had always been reliable with whatever she was given to work with, and that the company had always been happy with her.

The report went on to reveal that the star signed a new contract with the company in 2024. At the time, most deals that were signed were for five years.

It should be noted, though, that this does not mean she is not leaving, as the New Day had signed a new contract with the company, and they left after being asked to renegotiate their contract. There has been no word on if Asuka was also asked to renegotiate her contract as well, but that does not appear to be the case.
