Bordeaux’s fate to be decided on 24th June

Girondins de Bordeaux will find out on Tuesday, June 24th at 9am whether their continuation plan – key to the club’s future survival – will be validated by the Tribunal de Commerce of Bordeaux, according to a report from L’Équipe.

The decision follows a two-hour closed-door hearing on Friday morning, during which Bordeaux’s legal and financial representatives defended the plan designed to ensure the club’s economic stability and ongoing operations.

A positive ruling from the court is seen as essential for the club to gain clearance from the DNCG, French football’s financial watchdog, which is due to meet with club officials just two hours later on the same day, at 11am.Without court approval, Bordeaux’s participation in the 2025/26 Championnat National 2 (fourth tier) is unlikely to be sanctioned. The club, owned by Gérard Lopez, has submitted a complex and high-stakes financial plan, elements of which have already drawn legal opposition. Three clubs – Lille, Amiens, and Guingamp – have appealed aspects of the plan that affect them. These appeals are set to be heard on Monday, June 16th or Tuesday, June 17th, further adding uncertainty around the process.

A final green light from both the tribunal and the DNCG would secure Bordeaux’s place in the fourth tier next season, but any rejection could plunge the 2009 Ligue 1 champions into further administrative turmoil.GFFN | George Boxall
