SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Scottie Scheffler. Brooks Koepka. Xander Schauffele. They are some of the biggest names in golf. And while there’s still a lot of golf to play at TPC Scottsdale on Friday, they may also be some of the biggest names to miss the weekend at the 2026 WM Phoenix Open.
The Greenest Show on Grass draws a crowd regardless of who’s contending, and attendance rarely suffers, so the spirit of the tournament won’t be dampened depending on the names on the top of the leaderboard, but it’s still a surprise to see what’s developed after 18 holes.
Scottie Scheffler walks to the 10th tee box to begin round one at the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale.
Let’s start with Scheffler, the World No. 1, who came in as a prohibitive favorite. He signed for a 2-over 73, his first over-par round in 33 outings on the PGA Tour, dating back to the third round of the 2025 Travelers. He’s the active leader in consecutive cuts made at 65. He’ll need to get it going Friday afternoon to keep that streak alive.

Brooks Koepka is playing in his second event since returning to the PGA Tour. He made the cut on the number last week at the Farmer’s Insurance Open but finds himself in a hole after round one in Scottsdale. He had just one birdie, which came at the par-5 13th, to go along with five bogeys sprinkled around his card.
Koepka can’t play in the signature events for now, so he’s not playing next week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am nor the Genesis Invitational the week after. If if he doesn’t make the weekend in Scottsdale, he’ll add to his time off.

Brooks Koepka of the United States reacts after a shot during the first round of the WM Phoenix Open 2026 at TPC Scottsdale on February 05, 2026 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Then there’s Xander Schauffele, who had his Tour-best streak of 72 straight made cuts snapped six days ago at Torrey Pines. After 18 holes this week, he’s sitting at even-par after shooting 71. Might the Tour’s active cuts-made streak end two weeks in a row?

There’s obviously a lot of golf to be played on Friday but Datagolf’s early projected cut is 1 under (42 percent chance).
