“We went and Mandy [Rose] and I went and wrestled at SummerSlam three days after. Vince McMahon called, I called Vince and I was like, ‘Hey sir, you might see this on the news. This just happened.’ He was like, ‘Oh my God, what do you need?’ And he was actually very helpful. But then he wanted to cancel our SummerSlam match. And having a singles match at SummerSlam would have been, that was my biggest feat up until that point. And so I was like, ‘Absolutely not.’ So I begged him, and it was this whole long thing, but I begged him not to cancel it. And so we had our SummerSlam match three days later,” Berenato detailed.

Initially, it was a loser-shaves-their-head match between the two former friends, but it was later changed to a loser-leaves-WWE match to allow Deville to take some time away and handle her personal issues.

Vince McMahon allowed Sonya Deville to return in a new role

After taking time away, Deville returned as an authority figure, which gave her a new lease on life. The former WWE star worked closely with Adam Pearce for about a year, which helped her reintegrate into the roster after her time away.

Deville has since been able to take on a similar role as Daria Rae in TNA, so it seems that Vince McMahon allowing her to take time off and then return in a new role has helped her in her post-WWE career as well.

Deville parted ways with WWE in February 2025 after the company chose not to renew her contract, with the belief that she had come as far as she could in the company.
