AJ Styles defended his son at the time, arguing that Avery and Marcus Mathers had not been asked to help with the ring or chairs. Cannon continued discussing the situation online, which eventually prompted Styles to respond.

Now AJ has reflected on the situation during the latest episode of The AJ Styles Show.

AJ Styles admits he may have been better off staying quiet

Per Ringside News, Styles revealed that Avery himself has largely tried to stay away from the controversy. The young wrestler simply wants to focus on building his career rather than getting caught up in the online argument.

Styles explained that he finally stepped in after seeing Cannon discuss the situation for what he considered the third time. At that point, AJ felt that his son was being unfairly portrayed and decided to defend him.

“Maybe it wasn’t the best thing. Maybe I should have shut up. Probably should have,” Styles admitted on his podcast.

The former WWE Champion added that he had checked with Avery before making his comments publicly. For Styles, this wasn’t simply about protecting his son’s reputation because of his famous surname. He believed he had enough information to know that the story being presented online did not match what Avery and Mathers experienced.

Additionally, AJ has repeatedly stressed that Avery still has plenty to learn and is not ready for WWE. He has also taken a relatively hands-off approach to his son’s development, believing Avery needs to experience the business and learn from his mistakes.
