Punk returned on the July 6 episode of RAW to capture the title from Sami Zayn. Rhodes was originally scheduled to compete in the title bout against The Last Real Good Guy, but he was attacked by Gunther ahead of the match.

Cody Rhodes and Punk defeated Gunther and Sami Zayn last weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event. If Zayn and Gunther had won, they would have been added to the title match at SummerSlam. CM Punk accidentally hit Rhodes with the title while celebrating after the match, and it led to a heated confrontation during the SummerSlam Kickoff Show.

CM Punk reacts to becoming the new Undisputed WWE Champion

SmackDown star CM Punk claimed that he had nothing to apologize for after defeating Sami Zayn to become Undisputed WWE Champion.

In an interview with ESPN New York, the legend stated that he wasn’t sorry for beating Zayn and suggested that The Great Liberator could have a rematch. Punk noted that he understood that fans have their favorites and will root for them no matter what.

“I understand how Sami [Zayn] feels. But I don’t have anything to apologize for. It’s a fantastic thing about sports in general: people have their favorites, and they will root for them. And they live or die by that. So, when your team stinks and you’re still pulling for them, and you still have hope, I know what it feels like. I don’t have anything to apologize to Sami about. If he wants a title shot, he can come and get one. I’ll gladly give him a rematch,” Punk said.

It will be interesting to see what WWE has planned for Punk and Cody Rhodes tonight on SmackDown.
